Lincolnshire Indie rock band The Warbirds were formed after a chance meeting between two singer-songwriters who shared a passion and vision for creating inspiring music born out of hope, fear, love, and change. Andrew McEwan and Chris Willows soon found out they shared a love for melody and timeless classic songwriting within artists such as Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Ryan Adams, and The National. In the autumn of 2010 home-made demo’s were swapped and the seeds of The Warbirds were sown.
The music they each wrote had echos from these shared influences but on hearing the basic acoustic ideas it was immediately apparent these songs required a band to emphasise some of the songs drive, energy, and soul. Dale Simpson joined the pair on keyboard and hammond organ after replying to a local ad, and it was a huge slice of luck to hook up with someone who shared similar influnces and had a huge passion and love for the music they had created. With Chris’s previous bandmate Sean Hanley joining the band soon after on lead guitar, it was clear that these four Warbirds were bound to the songs and forever bound to be a warbird. With help from session players Chris Wade and James Middleton, The Warbirds recorded their eponymous debut EP in June 2011. The band have since been joined by bassist Dan Smith and drummer Andy Hutton who have added their own irrepressable playing to the Warbirds sound.
The Warbirds are looking forward to playing to local and national audiences across the UK and are very excited to promote The Warbirds EP, having already received positive airplay from BBC Introducing on BBC Radio Lincolnshire. They are currently playing the English festival circuit in July and August and are proud to have been asked to play the premier music venue of their hometown, the ‘Engine Shed’ in Lincoln, on September the 22nd 2011.
